Predictive and prognostic biomarkers

Prädictive and prognostic biomarkers

Through the application of the longitudinal immune monitoring and the biobanking in numerous clinical trials, a tremendous amount of biological data on the immune status of patients is generated. In order to create predictive and prognostic biomarkers from such biological data sets, it is necessary to include as well data sets on the clinical characteristics of the patients, as well as data on the survival, the therapeutic response or on side effects.

Very often simple statistical methods are not adequate to analyze this vast amount of data, even though a first impression of the data might be generated. In order to unravel broader correlations and connections in these data sets, we aim to apply AI-based methods and data mining approaches in cooperation projects. Thereby, we will determine predictive and prognostic immune signatures from the patients’ individual immune status.

Such predictive and prognostic biomarkers may be applied in the clinic in the future, in order to improve the patient’s therapy, to detect side effects or to even prolong the patient’s life.

Within the scope of these projects and studies, the habilitation of Dr. Anna Donaubauer is aspired.
