Osteoimmunology and Radiation
The main research interest of the Radiation Osteoimmunology Group is the anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and osteoimmunological effects mediated by low doses of ionizing radiation. In particular, we focus on cells of bone (osteoclasts and osteoblasts) as well as macrophages and fibroblast-like synoviocytes. We are also interested in age- and sex-specific differences in the response to ionizing radiation and in the inflammatory background. Here, the group is focusing on the effects of radon, "mixed irradiation" and protons on the immune system as well as bone metabolism, in addition to X-rays, as part of the BMBF-funded NukSiFutur junior research group project "TOGETHER".
